Undergraduate PH 137 Insects & Public Health

Course enrollment is typically 60 students. This course has been offered in Fall 2014, Spring 2015, Spring 2016, Fall 2016, and Spring of 2019. This course provides students with an introduction to the science of Entomology and its importance to Public Health. The course covers the essentials of how to identify insects and arthropods, with emphasis on those which are vectors. The course includes case studies of selected diseases such as West Nile virus, dengue fever, Malaria, and Chagas disease. Other topics covered include insecticides and alternatives used for pest management, and insects and environmental health.
