Prof. Sachin Goyal was recently nominated for the secretary position of ASME Technical Committee on MSNDC. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He has research interests in the areas of nonlinear dynamics of structures, controls and continuum mechanics with several cross-disciplinary applications in mechanical engineering, biology and health science. He started a research program on Biomechanics and Mechanobiology.
One of his key scientific contributions is a computational rod model to simulate the dynamics of nonlinear deformations of slender structures, such as biological filaments and underwater cables. Lately, he has been working on developing an inverse rod model to estimate nonlinear constitutive laws of biological filaments from their molecular dynamics simulations, and on modeling thermal fluctuations in the rod model. On another front, he is also modeling how Parkinsonian tremor develops as a limit cycle oscillation due to feedback delay in neuro-muscular control. He has published nearly 50 peer-reviewed articles on these research directions, some of which are in the ASME journals. He also teaches courses on multi-body dynamics besides other courses in the field of mechanics.
