About

Professional:

I got my undergraduate and master's degrees in Aerospace Engineering from National Cheng-Kung University in Taiwan. In my master's work, I designed, fabricated, and tested a 10-lbf altitude control mono-propellant thruster for a satellite. In 1999, I went to Penn State University to start my doctoral research, where I worked on a passive two-phase heat transfer device called a loop heat pipe in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. I applied Neutron Radiography as a visualization tool to help my experimental and modeling work. I started my fuel cell research as a postdoc in 2004 at Penn State University, where I applied Neutron Radiography to study water-management related issues. I joined the Fuel Cell Research Laboratory at General Motors in early 2005 and have been working on fuel cell research since then. Between 2005 and 2011, I was heavily involved in fuel cell material and diagnostic tool development at GM. In the past 10 years, I have given more than 10 keynote speeches and 15 technical presentations in international conferences and workshops. I have published 10 technical publications and 8 international issued and pending patents. Currently, I am an assistant professor at the University of California, Merced focusing on both high temperature and low temperature PEM fuel cell research and development. In my spare time, I like to stay active by jogging, swimming, and playing tennis.

Personal:

My hometown is Tainan, Taiwan. I am the oldest child in a typical family. I am a Christian and I attend Yosemite Church (YC) in Merced. I also host a Chinese Bible Study every Wednesday night at YC. One of my favorite bible verses is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." I am married and have three daughters. I love music and sports. An interesting fact about me is that I played volleyball in college. Here's a short Youtube video where you can check out my volleyball skills: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtrU9JCM26I. My ultimate goal in life is to reach out and have a positive impact on people.
