This project is special. In order to learn about how moms feed their babies after giving birth, we will ask moms to answer a couple of questions on their phone each day at first, and then a few questions each week. This lets us see how patterns develop and change.
What do I have to do to be in the project?
If you join the project you will be asked to do these things:
(1) Answer a few questions online using a link we send to you before you give birth. Or if you join the project after your baby is born, you will do these first.
(2) We will then do an info session on how to get and respond to the questions on your phone. We want to keep everyone safe so we will do this online using video conferencing. It should take no more than 30 minutes.
You will get a link to a Zoom meeting at a time that works for your schedule and meet with someone from our research team. Don’t worry, you don’t need a zoom account.
Next, we will work with you to download a free and secure app on your smartphone that will hold all the questions we will ask you to answer while you are in the project.
Last, we will practice answering the questions on the app and answer any questions you have.
(3) Starting around 4 days after your delivery date you will start getting push notifications from the app to complete the brief surveys. Each survey should take only about 1 minute to do.
There will be a post-birth survey asking you a few questions about how it went.
Then, for the first few weeks after that we will ask you a couple questions each day about feeding your baby and how you are doing.
After the first month, you will get questions about once a week. This will last for 6 months.
Finally, when it is all done, we will ask you a few questions about what the whole experience was like.
What if it starts to feel like too much?
We know this is a busy time for you so we will keep everything brief. But having you check in and answer so many questions can help us all learn what it is like with your baby during this special time right after giving birth. If you ever feel overwhelmed, you can always skip the questions for the day, or take yourself out of the project completely – we understand.
What can I earn by doing the project?
We will pay you for each survey you do and for attending the information session too! In total, you can earn up to $70 in Amazon gift cards. Specifically here is how it all breaks down:
$10 for the first survey online and attending the info session.
$5 for the first survey after you have given birth
Up to $20 in the first month ($5 per week) when we will ask you to answer questions each day. Remember answering the questions should only take a minute to do.
Up to $25 for months 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 ($5 per month) when we ask you answer questions each week.
A bonus of $10 if you tell us what the experience was like at the end and also complete 80% of the questions. You can still earn the bonus even if you have to skip a day of questions here and there.
How do I receive payment?
You will receive emails with the link to the Amazon gift cards each month while you are in the project.
