Dr. Chih-Wen Ni is originally from Taiwan. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in the department of Chemical Engineering at National Taiwan University, Taiwan in 1998 and 2000, respectively. Since then, he joined the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at Academia Sinica, Taiwan as a research associate for five years to fulfill his military duty. In year 2005, he departed for US to pursue his Ph.D. at the joined department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University, and then he earned his Ph.D. degree five years later in 2010. Immediately after graduation, he moved to UMass Medical School and worked as a postdoctoral associate to expand his research field in developmental biology using zebrafish until 2013. After finishing his Post-Doc training, he accepted an offer for a position of Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Since 2017, he joined UC Merced as an assistant professor at the department of Bioengineering. Dr. Ni’s research field is vascular biology. Specifically, he is interested in the regulation of gene expression and function in response to mechanical force. Recently, his research focus is on the development of novel site-specific genome integration method. He utilized a variety of approaches in his research from mammalian cell culture to animal models including mouse and zebrafish.
