Sigry graduated from UC Merced in May 2020 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. She was born in Guatemala and immigrated to Los Angeles when she was two years old. She worked with Dr. Díaz Rios on assessing UC Merced students’ basic- and food-related needs. In pursuing her goal of becoming a physician and serve families in the Central Valley, she has enrolled in the UC Irvine School of Medicine Postbacc program.
Edelis Diaz Machado
Edelis graduated from UC Merced in May 2019. She was born in Cuba and migrated to the United States when she was 10. In her role as a UC Global Food Initiative Fellow, she worked with Health Promotion and Dr. Díaz Rios on a project to assess food-related needs of UC Merced students. She is pursuing a career in the medical field and hopes to return to the Central Valley to serve the community.
