States across the US possess a mix of policies that criminalize immigrants by regulating the “legality” or permissibility of their lives, putting day-to-day activities like working and driving under the surveillance and control of immigration enforcement, and those that are inclusive by expanding noncitizens’ eligibility and rights. In my research I examine the nature of these immigrant policy contexts across states and localities. I assess the relationships between state and local policy and health outcomes.
