Welcome to the PEAR lab, focusing on the political economy of agriculture and rural development. The lab brings together faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates with an interest in the comparative study of rural development, focusing on historical, geospatial and survey-based data collection and quantitative analysis. Some ongoing research topics include the performance of state-led development in agriculture in Africa, the long-run political consequences of technological change in the American great plains, as well as the distributional and political consequences of the green revolution in India. In addition to co-authorship and paid RA opportunities, lab membership comes with a small book stipend and access to software, resources, and periodic trainings. The lab is directed by Prof. Aditya Dasgupta.
