Teaching
In Fall 2024, I am teaching Math 032 (Probability and Statistics) and DSC 008 (Introduction to Data Science). Information about the courses, including a full schedule of office hours, can be found on their Canvas pages.
My goal as a teacher is to help build equitable, inclusive, and just mathematical communities where everyone is welcome as a whole person who can use mathematics to understand and change the world. An overview of my teaching practice and experience can be found in my teaching philosophy. If you need any help connecting with resources, please feel free to email me or stop by my office (ACS 352).
Resources for students
There are many offices on campus to help UC Merced students succeed, including
- the STEM Tutoring Hub (for help with math/classes),
- Success Anywhere (overview of support),
- Basic Needs (for food help or other material needs), and
- Counseling & Psychological Services (for mental health).
Computational Resources
A large part of my teaching (and research) focuses on the effective usage of computational tools. Information about Jupyter (especially computational resources and interactive statistical notebooks) can be found on the UCM JupyterHub or on my GitHub profile.
Reading List
I read a lot of books which inform my (teaching) philosophy and help me grow as a mathematician. Here are some of my favorites!
- Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Perez
- Teaching to Transgress by bell hooks
- Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall
- How to be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
- Mathematics for Human Flourishing by Francis Su
- Educated by Tara Westover
