"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."

-William Butler Yeats

Interested in pursuing high school physics teaching as a possible career option? Maybe you're someone who enjoys seeing the light come on and want to help start that fire in students.

Teaching physics in high school is a rewarding career path that is in high demand. Believe it or not, only around 40% of high school students are taught by someone with a major in physics as enrollments continue to rise. Positions in physics are routinely among the fields in highest demand. Mid-career salaries range from $60,000-$100,000 and teachers rate their careers as extremely fulfilling, behind only physicians (GetTheFactsOut).

How do I become a physics teacher at a UCM student?

First, send me an email! Individual paths and circumstances mean that everyone's trajetory might be slightly different, but the program on campus to pursue teacher preparation is CalTeach. A student interested in becoming a physics teacher would major in physics and complete an NSED (Natural Sciences Education) minor.
