Our paper is published on the GPI sidechain of T. gondii. This is the first description of the entire GPI sidechain synthetic pathway for any eukaryotic microbe generated by two enzymes we named PIGJ and PIGE. This is Julia Alvarez' PH.D. dissertation in collaboration with Chris West at University of Georgia and George Yap at Rutgers. With structures in hand, we were able to show that the GPI sidechain is a major determinant of parasite virulence during infection.
