Preliminary_Grid_Scenario_Analysis - This report defines a baseline scenario in response to the guidance from the California Energy Commission. Section 2 of this report provides a table listing the baseline assumptions and scenarios that will be explored. Section 3 analyzes the accuracy of the use of critical time steps to shorten the calculation time while retaining the accuracy needed to understand how LDES will be used. Section 4 evaluates the effects of the modifications we propose to some of the generation profiles included in the baseline scenario. Section 5 demonstrates our approach to modeling an array of storage technologies. Finally, Section 6 provides capacity expansion outputs for our baseline (before introducing low-cost LDES).

Storage_Scenarios_Summary - Storage Scenarios Summary is leverages information in the Storage Technologies Summary to develop a strategy for modeling storage scenarios. It defines our assumptions for the two best-established technologies: pumped hydropower energy storage and lithium battery energy storage. Then, it describes how we will use a matrix of properties of potential long-duration energy storage to identify the cost targets that these will need to reach to be selected. Example graphs are shared to illustrate the approach and the inputs to RESOLVE are tabulated.

Storage_Technology_Summary - This report reviews the storage technologies that may be useful to California in meeting the SB100 goals in the context of providing long-duration storage. In Section 1, an overview of what long-duration storage is and how it has the potential to support a decarbonized grid is given, and Section 2 reviews many of the developed or developing technologies that may be used for storage.

Electricity_Generation_Technology_Summary - This report gives an overview of renewable electricity generation technologies. It is organized to summarize the generation resources available to California, how these generation resources affect the amount and types of storage that California will need and data to use for modeling inputs in RESOLVE and SWITCH. This summary, combined with the Storage Technology Summary lays the groundwork for subsequent modeling to quantify the value of long-duration storage.

3rd_Public_Workshop_Summary - This report includes the agenda, the public questions and the responses collected during the 3rd Public Workshop, held in July 12 of 2022.
