We investigate Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) genetics and the larval gut microbiome (bacteria and fungi in the gut), with the aim of identifying how combinations of fly genes and gut microbes confer desirable traits. Our process incorporates studies of wild Hermetia populations and targeted manipulations of lab-reared fly strains.
