We are currently recruiting graduate and undergraduate students, as well as self-funded visiting scholars and postdoctoral scholars. If your interests align with one of our Current Projects or Research Domains, please consider joining Mi3.
Skills in one or more of the following are particularly helpful in our research:
-
Deep Learning
-
Image Processing
-
Robotic Perception, Prediction, Planning, and Control
-
Sensor Data Acquisition and Management
UC Merced Students:
Please email Prof. Greer (rossgreer "at" ucmerced.edu) after your admission to UC Merced to set up an interview. Please include your CV, transcripts, and a description of your research interests and academic goals. Specificity is greatly appreciated; generic interest ("machine learning") makes it difficult to assess project fit.
For undergraduate students interested in engagement with Mi3 that may not meet the prerequisite coursework experience, we are happy to help you create a "Path to Research" course plan. Students who succeed in the created plan will be invited to join the laboratory. Accepted undergraduates are expected to spend at least nine months engaged with Mi3.
Research takes significant investment of time and effort. Because of this, with few exceptions, I expect students joining our group to have stellar transcripts (overall GPA > 3.5, or all A's in most recent semester). I want students in my lab to succeed in their studies and research, and if your coursework is not already well-managed, adding intensive research to the mix will not set you up for success in the classroom or lab. If your grades are currently below this level, focus on your courses this semester and reach out next semester with a recent set of A's on your transcript.
Undergraduate students considering research may enjoy this blog post by Kate Nuss.
Please note: Due to a high volume of emails, I will not be able to reply to emails which do not provide the above requested information. Please do not send an LLM-generated email which says that you "found [insert our lab's most recent publication] truly fascinating" -- this does not convey the authentic interest nor communication skills needed for our research group.
UC Students (Non-Merced):
Please email Prof. Greer (rossgreer "at" ucmerced.edu) to discuss the Intercampus Visitor Program, Intercampus Graduate Exchange Program, or Simultaneous Enrollment Program. Please also include your CV, transcripts, and a description of your research interests and goals.
Visiting Scholars and Postdocs:
We recruit self-funded post-doctoral researchers who have already completed a PhD or will soon complete a PhD. Please email Prof. Greer (rossgreer "at" ucmerced.edu) with the name and email address of your Ph.D. advisor or equivalent who can provide a recommendation, a copy of your CV, and a description of your research interests and goals.
Self-funded visiting scholars (enrolled in a degree program at another university) are welcome to apply following the same instructions. Please note that we expect visiting scholars to be engaged with Mi3 for at least one semester (approximately 4 months).
Please note that we receive many emails of interest, and may not reply to all emails individually.
