Eileen has a degree in English (B.A.) and graduate degrees (M.A. and Ed.D.) in Higher Education. Since 1997, she has been an instructor, curriculum designer, and faculty pedagogy coordinator. She spent five years as director of a university writing program, which included chairing the Developmental Writing Department, overseeing the Student Writing Center, and leading faculty learning communities for Writing in the Disciplines. She subsequently served as the Executive Director of Student Academic Success Services. In these roles, she collaborated closely with the General Education Program and with the University Assessment Steering Committee. Eileen’s deep commitment to advancing student success connects with her research interests pertaining to self-efficacy development, inclusive excellence, resilience theory, and authentic assessment. At UC Merced, she has a dual-appointment, as a teaching professor in the Global Arts, Media, and Writing Studies Department and the Interdisciplinary Humanities Graduate Group and as a faculty developer in the Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning. Her recent publication Joy-Centered Pedagogy in Higher Education: Uplifting Teaching and Learning for All  highlights the importance of asset-focused responses to compounding adversities.
